Public vs private mode

Murk has two modes you can flip between anytime, from the header toggle.

Private mode

The default. Shows your shielded balances and activity — the notes inside the pool. Everything you do here (send, swap, hold) is private. The interface tints violet to remind you you're private.

Public mode

Shows your ordinary on-chain wallet — the public balances and transactions anyone can see on a block explorer. Useful for moving public funds, checking prices, or preparing a deposit. The interface tints cool-blue.

Choosing a default

Set which mode Murk opens in under Settings → Default mode. Switching the default there doesn't flip your current view.

Why both?

Privacy is a spectrum, not a switch you flip once. Sometimes you want public rails (receiving a public payment, interacting with a public dApp); sometimes you want privacy (paying a contractor, trading without showing your hand). Murk keeps both one click apart so you always choose which applies.

ℹ️ Note: Your public balance and your private balance are separate pools of value. Move between them by depositing (public → private) and withdrawing (private → public).
